Bookshelf Rehab

CKula needed a little bookshelf for his new office and we found this dusty one at the thrift store for $8. Inspired by one of my vintage glasses, I used black and gold metallic spray paint, a saw and a new set of legs to transform it into something a little cuter, but still masculine enough to go with all his black office furniture.

He will not be taking the Liberace photo with him to work.

You’ve made some great casting/writing staff decisions the last couple years. Seriously, way to go. But can we get a black woman in the cast, please? A black woman who could play Whoopi, Oprah, Michelle Obama, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, NeNe, Maxine Waters, etc.? It’s ridiculous that there are four women in the cast who could conceivably play Sarah McLachlan in a sketch and zero who could play Oprah.

And I’m tired of seeing Kenan have to do drag every single week.

I have private dental insurance, for which I pay about $20 out-of-pocket every month. I recently got a cleaning (for the first time in years) that cost $92. My insurance reimbursed me $14. Fourteen dollars!!!! I laughed when I opened the check. Laughed, then cried. Then made plans to move to Denmark.

I’m super excited with how this one came out. Mad props to Scott Brown and Anthony King for writing the song. (Everyone should buy their new album - the Gutenberg! The Musical! cast recording)

The most hilarious part of the experience for me is that we shot it in a grocery store in Astoria that Anthony, Scott, and I used to shop at all the time when we lived together in an apartment around the corner. I have heard this story twice in the last 24 hours and I’ve laughed both times. It’s from the EW cover story about Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” tour that never was.

As the production got under way, it quickly became clear that Jackson’s creative ambitions for the concert were beyond anything he’d ever attempted. With the budget already past $24 million, Jackson told his team he wanted to recreate one of the world’s largest waterfalls on the stage. “I was ready to jump off the balcony of my office,” Phillips says. “We went and met with Michael, and Kenny said, ‘Michael, you’ve got to stop. We’ve got an incredible show, we don’t need any more vignettes.’ Michael said, ‘But Kenny, God channels this through me at night. I can’t sleep because I’m so super-charged.’ Kenny said, ‘But Michael, we have to finish. Can’t God take a vacation?’ Without missing a beat, Michael said, ‘You don’t understand — if I’m not there to receive these ideas, God might give them to Prince.’”
